Basement Finishing

Can You Partially Finish a basement?

Basements can be a great place to store items, but they’re not all built the same. Some basements are finished, and some are not. If you have an unfinished basement that you’d like to partially finish so it has some storage space, here are few tips on how to partially finish a basement.

  • Add some soft furnishing and accessories to make your partially finished basement look more complete and cozier, but avoid overloading the room with many things which will only increase its small space
  • Place a fireplace in the center of the wall instead of adding other entertainment appliances such as TV stand or storage cabinets; this way it will look more attractive.
  • If you want to place storage cabinets, try to avoid placing them directly against the walls of your partially finished basement; rather, put them in between two areas that are usually for sitting or playing chess with your family members… This way it won’t look like an unfinished room when you have guests over and they see those storage cabinets against the wall.
  • If you enjoy reading books in your spare time, try to place a small library or mini shelf in at least one corner of your half-finished basement; this way it won’t look like an unfinished space as well.
  • Make a decorative mirror using boards, plexiglass and some cheap deco pictures or photo’s… You will have to modify it slightly so that it doesn’t look like an ordinary frame; but of course, this is completely up to your taste.
  • Add a room divider or even some lattice panels in front of the bathroom door; this way it will look more attractive, even if you don’t plan on putting a curtain in front of the door.
  • Alter or add some finishing touches to your ceiling lighting… Whether it’s adding some new light fixtures or just replacing the old one with newer and better ones that beautiful fit your partially finished basement design theme.
  • If you don’t like the colors of your basement, this is where you change it all around! Paint or repaint some portion of the walls to match the bedroom, living room and kitchen… Just whatever comes to mind; this way will surely bring out that natural elegance from within your home.
